CDC Guidelines for COVID – After five waves of COVID-19 in the last two and a half years, the cases of coronavirus are once again rising in the United States, and health experts have already declared it the 6th wave of COVID-19 in the country.

Along with the United States, other countries are also seeing a rapid spike in daily active cases of COVID-19 in their respective countries. It is also a time of summer, and We all love summer activities.

That is why it becomes very important for us to ensure the safety of ourselves and our friends and family at the same time.  

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one of the important health agencies of the United States, keeps updating its CDC guidelines for covid to ensure the safety of citizens. They also suggest everyone understand these guidelines so that you can also be safe even in the rising cases.

CDC Guidelines for COVID Vaccine

One of the biggest changes we saw in the CDC COVID guidelines was for the COVID vaccine. COVID vaccine for kids has become one of the hot topics in the United States since last week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with the Food and Drug Administration of the United States, announced that they had approved the COVID vaccine for kids. 

From now on, everyone above the age of six months in the United States is eligible to get vaccinated with the COVID vaccine. 

  • The CDC suggests everyone above the age of 50 get two primary doses of the COVID vaccine and two booster shots.  
  • Once you have completed four doses of the COVID vaccine, including primary doses and two posters, you will be considered up to date.
  • Everyone above the age of 12 in the United States is eligible to receive two primary doses of the COVID vaccine and one booster shot. After getting the first booster shot, you will be considered up to date.
  • People above the age of 12 can also get a second booster shot if they are immune-compromised.
  • Everyone between the ages of 5 to age 11 is eligible to receive two shots COVID vaccine in the gap of five months, And one booster shot. Under any circumstances below the age of 12 are not eligible to receive a second booster shot.
  • Kids above the age of six months two to year five are also eligible to receive vaccines. They have the choice to get vaccinated with Pfizer or the Moderna COVID vaccine.

CDC Guidelines for Quarantine and Isolation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have not dropped its quarantine and isolation policies. Previously quarantine and isolation were mandatory for people traveling in the United States and who got positive for COVID-19.

Now, it has switched from mandatory to guidelines. The Centers for Disease Control and prevention or police cannot forcefully isolate or quarantine.

Guidelines for not up to date on vaccine

The first set of quarantine guidelines is for people who are not up to date with their COVID vaccine. 

  • Everyone not up to date with the COVID vaccine should quarantine themselves for at least five days after their exposure to someone infected with the virus.
  • Kindly keep watching your symptoms until the 10th day of your close contact with someone infected with a virus.
  • You are not allowed to travel until the 6th day. And you should keep following all the travel precautions till the 10th day.
  • In case you develop any symptoms related to COVID-19 till the 10th day, then you should isolate yourself immediately.

Guidelines for people up to date on the COVID vaccine

The second set of guidelines is for people who are up to date on the COVID vaccine.

  • People up to date on the COVID vaccine are not required to isolate themselves after exposure to someone infected with COVID-19.
  • In case you develop symptoms till the 10th day of your exposure, then you can isolate yourself immediately and get tested.
  • You are allowed to travel, but you should follow all the travel precautions.
  • Kindly keep wearing a well-fitted mask when you are in public places.

Guidelines for COVID-positive people

The final set of guidelines is for people already infected with COVID-19. Everyone infected with the virus should follow these guidelines regardless of their vaccination status. 

  • In case you develop any symptoms related to COVID-19 or you get tested positive for the same, you should isolate yourself for at least five days from your family and friends.
  • You are not advised to travel until the 10th day of starting your symptoms. 
  • You can end your isolation after five days if you spend 24 hours without any fever-reducing medicine. 
  • If you do not develop any symptoms related to COVID-19, then you can end your isolation after five days.
  • You are always free to consult every symptom related to COVID-19 with your doctor. in case your symptoms get worse, then you should consult with your doctor or call 911. You might require hospitalization.

CDC Guidelines for COVID Testing

Lastly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also have CDC guidelines for COVID testing. There are different types of tests available in the United States, both free and paid. You should follow guidelines issued by the CDC for COVID testing.

  • You can take a self-test or a home test anytime you want. You don’t have to wait till you develop any symptoms related to COVID-19.
  • Apart from that, if you develop any symptoms related to COVID-19, then you should get yourself tested with a home COVID test immediately.
  • In case you are going to any indoor event or gathering, you should test yourself immediately before the gathering and at least two days after the gathering.

When does the CDC change CDC guidelines for COVID?

The Centers for Disease Control and prevention change its CDC guidelines for COVID whenever they believe it is the right time. Apart from that, they keep updating its guidelines whenever there is a new update. For example, the CDC updated its guidelines when the US FDA announced the approval of the COVID vaccine for everyone below the age of five years to six months.
